The Witcher’s World Map & Locations
The map of the Continent above was created by a group of dedicated fans called the Ortelius Team, and offers a detailed look at the world of The Witcher. All the action in The Witcher season 1 takes place north of the Amell Range at the center of the map, but it’s important to note Nilfgaard’s location in the far south. By the end of season 1, the Nilfgaardian Empire occupies more than half of the map – all the way up to Cintra. Meanwhile, The Witcher season 2 revisited old locations and introduced several new ones. Les origines
The Witcher a commencé comme une série de nouvelles écrites par l’auteur polonais Andrzej Sapkowski et centrées sur Geralt de Riv, un Witcher. Ces Witchers sont des individus dotés de capacités surnaturelles et formés à un jeune âge pour combattre diverses bêtes et monstres. Après le succès des nouvelles, Sapkowski a commencé à écrire la saga The Witcher, en 5 livres centrés sur Geralt et Ciri, une princesse de Cintra que Geralt tente de protéger au milieu des bouleversements politiques. Semblable à Game of Thrones, la franchise regorge de batailles épiques, de créatures mythiques et d’intrigues politiques. Des jeux vidéo suivant Geralt ont été développés à partir de 2007 par CD Projekt Red et publié par Atari. La collection compte trois opus dont le dernier, The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, est sorti en 2015.
Plusieurs lieux de tournage
En raison de la pandémie, la saison 2 de The Witcher a été tournée au Royaume-Uni, dans pas moins de quinze lieux différents. Pendant cinq ans, l’équipe a filmé une grande partie des épisodes aux Arborfield Film Studios pour servir de décors à Kar Morhen. « Kaer Morhen est certes un décor, mais il s’agit presque de l’un des personnages de la saison 2. On savait aussi que ce serait un lieu familier pour ceux qui ont lu les livres et joué aux jeux vidéo, il fallait donc honorer les matériaux sources tout en les sublimant pour que le public reste séduit. C’était un sacré défi, mais aussi une responsabilité que nous avons prise très au sérieux », a expliqué le chef décorateur Andrew Laws. L’équipe de production a ensuite continué à tourner dans les bois de Coldharbour, à Deepcut, au Lake District et à Teesdale. Le tournage s’est terminé au Yorkshire et dans les jardins autour du lac artificiel, Plumpton Rocks. Un tournage, parsemé d’embûches, qui aura duré quatorze mois.

Andrzej Sapkowski’s The Witcher book series was initially scheduled to be adapted into a standalone Netflix film, but Kelly Luegenbiehl, Vice President of International Originals at Netflix, dissuaded the producers. She recalled asking them, « How can you take eight novels and just turn it into a film? There’s so much material here. Through a number of conversations, the producers got really excited about the idea of using the source material for a longer-running series. »[13] In May 2017, Netflix announced the start of production on an English-language drama TV series based on the books.[14][15]
