Netflix’s fantasy series “The Witcher” has been renewed for Season 5, which will be the end of the series, the streamer announced Thursday morning. It also confirmed that Season 4 is now in production, and it will film back to back with Season 5. Season 4 will be the first with Liam Hemsworth replacing Henry Cavill as lead character, Geralt of Rivia. Netflix announced in October 2022 that Cavill would be departing the show after the third season, which aired in summer 2023 in two parts.
The Witcher is coming to an end. The show announced today on X (aka Twitter) that Netflix has picked up a fifth season of the fantasy adaptation, which will be its last. “It’s official, The Witcher season 4 is in production. But that’s not all, we’re already planning season 5, which will be the final season and bring this epic show to a fitting conclusion. See you on The Continent,” Netflix confirmed. As we previously reported, Season 4 will feature new lead Liam Hemsworth who takes over the role of Geralt from Henry Cavill who exited at the end of Season 3.
Following today’s season three finale of the Netflix fantasy drama The Witcher, Henry Cavill has officially hung up Geralt of Rivia’s sword. Cavill first broke the news that he’d be replaced in the series’s title role by Liam Hemsworth in an October 2022 Instagram post. But while everyone involved with The Witcher has been gracious about Cavill’s departure, there are plenty of unanswered questions about exactly why the actor left a role he obsessively pursued before a single script had even been written. Let’s review what we know, what we don’t, and how “The Cost of Chaos” sends Cavill’s Geralt off into the mist.
What We Know About The Witcher Seasons 4 And 5
Word came down from Tudum today that Netflix has renewed The Witcher for Season 5, but that it will be the last that fans will see of Geralt, Ciri, Yennefer, Jaskier, and their many allies and enemies on The Continent. Not only that, but Season 4 of the action-packed series is now in production, and news on the show is set to keep rolling for a while, as the final season will film right after.
« We’re thrilled to be able to bring Andrzej Sapkowski’s books to an epic and satisfying conclusion. It wouldn’t be our show if we didn’t push our family of characters to their absolute limit—stay tuned to see how the story ends. »Seasons 4 and 5 of The Witcher on Netflix will cover Baptism of Fire, The Tower of the Swallow, and The Lady of the Lake, the final (for now, at least) three novels in Sapkowski’s Witcher saga, which means Geralt and the gang won’t be shown the door with their original adventures incomplete.

The Witcher wrapped its third season in July 2023, which also marked the end of Henry Cavill’s run as Geralt of Rivia. Liam Hemsworth will take over the role when the show returns for Season 4, which does not yet have a premiere timetable.
Despite the name, Summer Game Fest isn’t entirely about games — case in point, we got a brand-new trailer for The Witcher’s third season. The clip shows off just about everything the series is known for: bloody battles, terrifying monsters, fiery magic, and Geralt looking very awkward at a social affair. And, of course, he spends lots of time talking about how neutral he is.Season 3 of The Witcher starts streaming on Netflix on June 29th — or at least, some of it does. Just like Stranger Things before it, the latest season of the fantasy show will be split into two parts. Volume one will debut in June, while the second volume will premiere in July.

Our three protagonists, Ciri, Geralt, and Yennefer, are the closest they’ve ever been to each other in terms of proximity. Ciri has been taken in by a woman in a homestead close to Sodden and the Yaruga River, while Geralt is delirious nearby after being bitten by a monster. Meanwhile, Yennefer, Tissaia, and Triss are tasked with defending the Sodden keep that leads to the North from the onrushing Nilfgaard army.
